Ksyen Regional Hospital

Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace, British Columbia, has been replaced by the new Ksyen Regional Hospital, which officially opened on November 24, 2024. The old Mills Memorial Hospital building has been demolished.

The new, 78-bed Ksyen Regional Hospital is a significant upgrade that serves as the main healthcare hub for northwestern British Columbia.

Key features and services

  • Capacity: The new facility is nearly double the size of the old one, with 78 beds, up from 44.
  • Regional Trauma Center: It serves as a regional trauma and orthopedic surgery center, providing services closer to home for residents in the area.
  • Mental Health: A new Seven Sisters mental health facility is also part of the campus, with 25 beds and enhanced amenities.

Comprehensive Services: The hospital offers expanded services including diagnostic imaging, pathology, and pharmacy.

Medical Training: It continues to be a training site for medical students through the Northern Medical Program.

Indigenous Recognition: The new name, “Ksyen,” is derived from the Tsimshian language word for the Skeena River, and it honors the Indigenous heritage of the region.
